Throughout my entire life, I have been spending summer vacations at our family camp on Big Lake in Princeton, Maine. \u00a0Not familiar with Princeton? \u00a0Not many people are. \u00a0It is a tiny town located 1.5 hours north of Bangor, near the eastern Canadian border. \u00a0We are lucky to have this little slice of heaven in an area that is still untouched by the \u201cmodern\u201d world. \u00a0The only places to eat out in town are lunch counters at the two gas stations. \u00a0And no, we do not need to eat out when there is a perfectly good fire pit for cooking on the beach. \u00a0However, I do hear rumors of an actual RESTAURANT opening in Princeton in June 2013\u2026how exciting!<\/p>\n

We get our daily supplies at the combination supermarket and variety store in town. \u00a0Now when they say variety, they mean it\u2026groceries, pharmacy, bait, tackle, appliances, clothing, hardware, gardening supplies, housewares\u2026you name it! \u00a0We also get our fishing licenses there, but we used to get them from an old woman down the road who would type them on a typewriter in her kitchen. \u00a0Speaking of kitchen, the best \u201cbakery\u201d in town is run out of a local woman\u2019s kitchen. \u00a0She bakes many different items, puts them on a sign out in front of her house and welcomes you in to make your selection. \u00a0How\u2019s that for small town?!<\/p>\n

The dirt road to our camp never had a name up until a few years ago. \u00a0They took a vote from the people on our road and \u201cSand Cove Road\u201d won. \u00a0After all, we are all located in Sand Cove on Big Lake so it was the sensible option. \u00a0Why make things more complicated? \u00a0I think you \"tackle\"<\/a>may be getting the picture of Princeton life.<\/p>\n

My great-grandfather helped build our camp which has seen many renovations over the years, one of which was indoor plumbing (thank goodness!). \u00a0Even with therenovations, we kept things simple. \u00a0You kinda have to feel a little like you are \u201croughing\u201d it if you are really committed to the experience. \u00a0There is no television. \u00a0We have a radio to listen to the news in the morning and the Red Sox games in the evening. \u00a0Our daily routine pretty much goes like this:
\n– Morning = Get up early. \u00a0Drink coffee. \u00a0Survey the lake.<\/em>
\n\u2013 Good weather = Get ready to fish. \u00a0Load the boat and go!<\/em>
\n\u2013 Mid-day = Get food for lunch\/dinner in town. \u00a0Make lunches.<\/em>
\n\u2013 Afternoon = Eat lunch on the lake. \u00a0Fish until just before sunset.<\/em>
\n\u2013 Evening = Start the fire. \u00a0Grab a beer. \u00a0Watch the sunset.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"big<\/a><\/p>\n

\"whoopie\"<\/a>In the event of a day of bad weather, we will travel to another town. \u00a0The big \u201ccity\u201d of Calais has larger,\u00a0chain stores. \u00a0A bit further out is Eastportwhich is more quaint and offers fresh from the boat lobster from Quoddy Bay Lobster, delicious\u00a0homemade whoopie pies and many small shops. \u00a0And if we have our passports, we can head over the border to St Andrews in Canada. \u00a0Of course, family games or reading a book are also approved activities at any time. \u00a0No one has to do anything on a schedule. Just whatever they feel at that moment. \u00a0Four days is a usual trip for me, but it can feel like two weeks if I allow myself to TRULY relax and unplug.<\/p>\n

There are so many memories for me attached to this lake, so it was only fitting that I include it in my Dune Jewelry collection. \u00a0I wear my Big Lake sand Dune Drops<\/a> and Sandbead<\/a> Bracelet every day. \u00a0I want to feel connected to that area, since part of me will always be there. \u00a0I visit each year so I can find myself again and make new memories to take with me forever.<\/p>\n
