January – Carnation

Carnations come in many colors. However, the classic red carnation is the same fiery hue as January’s garnet birthstone. To truly embrace your birth month, we recommend the beautiful red carnation.

A flower industry favorite, carnations have many meanings depending on the color. For example, dark red carnations symbolize deep love while white carnations signify pure and innocent love and remembrance. Pink carnations, meanwhile, represent flirty affection and maternal love.

February – Violet

Surprised February’s flower isn’t the rose? Though roses are often associated with Valentine’s Day, they aren’t actually in season during this time of year. Violets, on the other hand, make for beautiful February blooms!

While violets are most recognized in their signature deep purple color (a shade that resonates with February’s amethyst birthstone), they can also be white, cream, blue, and yellow.  Violets hold unique symbolism, including humility, trueness, loyalty, dependability, thoughtfulness, faithfulness, remembrance, and everlasting love.

March – Daffodil

Daffodils are one of the most welcome harbingers of spring. While the classic daffodil is yellow or white, these bell-shaped blooms can also be found in shades of pink and orange. Because of their association with spring, daffodils represent rebirth and new beginnings. They also symbolize creativity, inspiration, and forgiveness.

April – Daisy

Spring is in full swing come April, which makes these early bloomers a perfect fit for April’s birth month flower. While daisies symbolize purity, innocence, and true love, the flower’s meaning also changes with color. White daisies specifically reference purity and innocence, pink daisies allude to love and romance. Like many yellow flowers, yellow daisies symbolize friendship and joy.

May – Sunflower

Sunflowers are known for bringing happiness and sunshine. Bright like May’s weather, these flowers will always turn their heads towards the sun. In some cultures, Sunflowers represent long life, good luck, and energy.

June – Rose

One of the world’s most recognizable flowers, roses are an iconic symbol of love, beauty, and affection. As with many flowers, different colors have different meanings. Red roses reference romance while white roses reference purity and innocence, orange roses point to excitement and passion, pink roses suggest admiration and happiness, and yellow roses signify good cheer.

July – Larkspur

Regal blue-purple larkspur can grow up to three feet high! Depending on the color, this striking flower symbolizes many things, including the bonds of love, dedication, positivity, and sincerity. It’s also associated with youthfulness and lightheartedness.

August – Hydrangea

A summer staple, Hydrangeas are often seen in beach house gardens with their brightly colored blooms. Radiating abundance, the colors symbolize peace, grace, and harmony. The color of hydrangea is directly related to the soil, with higher acidity leading to pinks and reds, with lower acidity giving way to beautiful blues and purples.

September – Aster

When summer begins to give way to fall, aster’s annual appearance provides a glorious splash of color. This star-like late bloomer was once considered a sacred flower. Today, it’s associated with love, beauty, patience, wisdom, friendship, faith, and purity.

October – Marigold (Calendula)

Cherished for their rich autumnal colors, marigolds bloom in early summer through fall’s first frost. While marigolds are sometimes associated with death and grief, their bright orange and yellow hues represent the sun’s beauty and warmth, as well as optimism, prosperity, cheer, wealth, and success.

November – Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemums, AKA “mums,” are often the first flower that comes to mind when we think of fall. Originally golden in color, these vibrant blooms have been cultivated in a range of colors.

Depending on factors ranging from color to culture, mums symbolize many things, including friendship, loyalty, joy, love, sorrow, and youth.

December – Narcissus

Although most narcissus flowers are spring flowers, the paperwhite narcissus bloom in winter. The small, delicate blooms represents purity and simplicity. In mythology, Narcissus was a man so gorgeous, he fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. He was so entranced he couldn’t leave his spot, so the gods turned him into a flower so his beauty could live on forever.
