Dune Jewelry is a chaotic (and fun) family affair in the Christensen household.  During the first two months of the year, I travel to Atlanta, NYC and Orlando Trade Shows and Eric is left to juggle our two girls Lyla (4) and Alexa (6).  It’s super hectic during these months, so as soon as March rolls around I like to book us all a relaxing family vacation so that we can reconnect and spend enough time together so that by the time we’re home, we’re sick of each other!

Family Beach Vacations

Over the years we’ve been to St. Thomas, St. John, Punta Cana and most recently Orlando, Naples, and Ft. Myers.  This trip was a bit different because I had also booked three Trunk Show appearances throughout the two weeks we were away.  It’s fulfilling to watch my girls grow and see them start to understand what I do for work.  I’m always wearing my favorite Dune pieces which are sentimental for me but usually, I’m also wearing some kind of prototype to assess for durability and “feel”.  Alexa now asks if she can “test” new pieces as she sees fresh designs come home with me which makes my heart happy.

Me and My Girls…Oh, and Eric too!

As my daughters grow up I’m realizing that Lyla wants to be just like Eric (uh-oh) and Alexa wants to be just like me (yes!!) and that is a tremendous accomplishment for me because I didn’t have parental role models when I was growing up.  It’s rewarding when Alexa works with me on vacation to stage social media photos and fun family pics.  She’s genuinely starting to have a great eye for detail and she’s very opinionated on which designs she likes and dislikes.  It’s like having a little boss at home with me at all times!

Family Jewelry for my Daughters

We had an impromptu photo shoot when we were in Naples at Delnor-Wiggins beach. The girls both wore their current favorite pieces.  Alexa wore a delicate round Sand Jewel necklace filled with lapis along with Traveling Heart stud earrings. Lyla wore the Traveling Heart Necklace filled with sand from our St. John vacation. That was a huge moment for us because Lyla normally tells me that she doesn’t like “pretty” things, only “cool” things, so essentially, I finally registered on the “cool” scale for the first time ever – score!

As different as my girls are, I know they both appreciate and enjoy the time we get to spend together. I’m already looking forward to our next getaway which will be this Summer at Sandy Pines campground in Kennebunk, Maine.  Stay tuned for my glamping stories!
