1. Michael Gallagher Jewelers – Bear, DE

THEN + NOW Michael Gallagher Jewelers, Bear, Delaware – Michael & Teresa Gallagher

Dune: How long have you been working together and what is your favorite part of working together?

Teresa: Our family-owned store has been in business for 80 years. I have worked here part-time for three decades, and full time for the last 8 years. The best part of working together is being able to see my parents on a daily basis. We are very close and maintain a family atmosphere that extends to our sales associates and to our customers. We have built our reputation on trust, integrity, and family tradition. When someone steps into our store, they are treated like family!

Dune: What is something fun about your Dad that you want us to know?

Teresa: Our family is very active in animal rescue. A percentage of all of our sales go to local animal shelters and rescues. We receive numerous calls from the local community asking for help with all types of animals particularly cats. One day we received a call here at the store about a mother cat and her kittens who were in grave danger. My Dad and I flew out the door in our business suits with humane traps in hand to trap/rescue the mama cat and her kittens! Then back to the store with the little feline family in tow! It is a great feeling to help those who cannot speak for themselves. Our rescue work is something that we truly enjoy.

Dune: What would your Dune design top pick be for men? If this design were being handmade for your Dad, which elements would you choose?

Teresa: The Nautical Woven Bracelet! I had one created for my Dad at Christmas! My friend went on a trip and brought back a rock from Mt.Sinai and gravel from Jerusalem. I sent the elements to the Sand Artists at Dune. Those elements were used to create my Dad a meaningful bracelet that he wears every day!

2. The Pewter Shop – Rockport, MA

The Pewter Shop Zan & Chris
The Pewter Shop, Rockport, Massachusetts – Chris & Zan Murch

Dune: How long have you been working together and what is your favorite part of working together?

Zan: The Pewter Shop opened in 1935 and has been a family-run business since 1959.  Chris started working at the shop full time in 1970 and I joined in 2001. I feel extremely lucky to have been able to work alongside my dad for the past 20 years and for us to keep the family business growing year after year.

Dune: What is something fun about your Dad that you want us to know?

Zan: He is a walking encyclopedia and can build almost anything, so I learn so much from him every day!

Dune: What would your Dune design top pick be for men? If this design were being handmade for your Dad, which elements would you choose?

Zan: Our favorite Dune men’s design would have to be the money clip.  It’s a classic style and very strong.  My dad loves boating, so I would have his money clip inlaid with sand from the harbor where he moors his boat, which is right across the street from the shop – very convenient!

3. Eco Chic – Plymouth & Kingston, MA

THEN + NOW Eco Chic, Plymouth & Kingston, Massachusetts – David & Jenny Fuss

Dune: How long have you been working together and what is your favorite part of working together?

David: We opened our first eco chic location 10 years ago. Since day one, Jenny had been involved in the business. Rolling up her sleeves and putting in the time to grow this family business into two locations. I am proud to work with Jenny every day. It has created a special bond between us that many will never have the opportunity to experience.

Jenny: I would like to say my Dad and I have been working together for 24 years. Whether it be on a school project, a lemonade stand, or running a boutique together. My Dad has always been my partner in crime and number one supporter. Working together consists of laughing then saying “ok back to business” then laughing about something again.

Dune: What is something fun about your Dad that you want us to know?

Jenny: My dad has an endless amount of “Dad jokes”. The kind of jokes that make you laugh and roll your eyes at the same time. My days are often started with a text from my dad with a “dad joke”. Not a bad way to start a day.

Dune: What would your Dune design top pick be for men/for your Dad?

Jenny: If I had to pick a Dune Jewelry item for my Dad, it would definitely be the compass ornament. Compasses have always been an important symbol to us and served as a reminder that no matter how near or far we are from each other, we are always connected in our hearts.

4. Bayshore Clothing – Marathon, FL

THEN + NOW Bayshore Clothing, Marathon, Florida – Marc Anderson & Teri Childress

Dune: How long have you been working together and what is your favorite part about working together?

Marc: One of the best parts of working with my family is seeing them interacting so well with our customers and the warm response from everyone.   A funny thing about working together is that we all share the same sense of humor. We really have a lot of laughs! Sometimes that can help on a long day.

Teri:  We just celebrated 33 years in business, so that’s how long I feel that we’ve been working together! I used to get off the school bus at the shop as a kid, and now my daughter does that too! One of my favorite things is that my dad is always joking around and making us laugh! And he sometimes brings us an awesome lunch 🙂

Dune: What is something fun about your dad that you want us to know?

Teri:  He’s so knowledgeable about EVERYTHING! He’ll get into conversations with customers about all kinds of things and is always dropping random fun facts. I am not exaggerating; I think I learn something new every time I work with him!

Dune: What is your top pick for a Dune design for Father’s Day and What would you put in it if you were making it for your dad?

Teri: My top pick for a design would be either the keyring or the money clip made with sand from where we like to go fishing or something like turquoise which looks like the ocean!  We love to fish!  Hmm…I need to figure out which parts of the fish we can use as a custom element.  Haha!!

5. Island Gift Nook – Venice, FL

Island Gift Nook, Venice, FL Mark Thompson & Geoff Rossback

Dune: How long have you been working together and what is your favorite part of working together?

Mark: We have been working together since 2004.  We like being able to spend more quality time together.

Dune: What is something fun about your Dad that you want us to know?

Geoff: My dad grew up in Greenfield, Ohio which is a very small community.  He attended Edward Lee McClain High School.  It is an Ohio Historical Landmark filled with Greek/Roman statues, murals, a marble staircase, and beautiful artwork.  When we toured it, it was like walking through a museum!

Dune: What would your Dune design top pick be for men? If this design were being handmade for your Dad, which elements would you choose?

Geoff: We would probably pick the picture frame.  It’s a solid choice. And for my Dad, I would have it made with sand from Aruba.  We have spent many good times in Aruba walking the beach together and have many photos we could choose from to put in the frame.
