Moms of Dune: Notes on Motherhood
Did you know that Dune Jewelry is a mom-owned business? That’s right, our founder Holly is a mom to two wonderful daughters.
And it doesn’t stop there. From sales directors to accountants and many things in between, some of our most essential Dune workers also happen to be moms (we know, that’s TWO FULL TIME JOBS!).

This Mother’s Day, we’ve asked a handful of the Moms of Dune about some of the fondest memories they’ve made with their child, the challenges of being a full-time working mom, and other questions about motherhood.
Without further ado…we’re excited to present….

What are the hardest and most rewarding parts about being a mum?
This is a really hard question to answer, because there are so many rewarding things about being a mum, and they differ at different phases of your child’s life.
For me, at this current stage (my son is just about to graduate high school and go off to college), the most rewarding part of being a mum is seeing the kind of person that my son has grown into: a fun, smart, confident, kind young man with a good heart. Above all, the most rewarding thing for me to see his big heart and how he treats other people.
The hardest part about being a mum is letting go…allowing them to spread their wings, and make their own decisions, and sometimes mistakes (I’m not good at that).
Describe how you would spend your ideal Mother’s Day.
My ideal Mother’s Day would be spent with my family, so I can get to have time with both my son and my mum. I suppose it would be a combination of activities that we would all enjoy – watching an English Premiership soccer game in the morning at our favorite English pub, heading over to the beach for a couple of hours in the afternoon, and then a nice relaxing dinner together (that I don’t have to cook!) – just a fun, relaxing day of time together!
If you were to give or receive a Mother’s Day gift from Dune Jewelry, which design would it be?
A Dune design that I particularly love as a Mother’s Day gift is the Infinity Bracelet. To me the infinity symbol is a perfect representation of a mother-child relationship – a limitless and endless love.
I just happen to have my Dune Infinity Bracelet crafted with Sand from Sicily as a reminder of a family trip we took last summer. One of my favorite memories of that trip is an amazing cooking class I took with my husband, son and mum at a small local restaurant overlooking the ocean. Such a fun day!

Share something about yourself that people may not know.
Something about myself that people may not know is that I was told I would never be able to have children so when I was finally pregnant after years of trying and many many surges etc to become pregnant, I was pregnant with twins. I did loose one twin in the first trimester but I do have the most beautiful perfect child today as my one and only.
What’s your favorite way to spend time with your child?
My favorite thing to do with my child is to travel. I want to show her the world. I want to experience new places with her and see everything through a her eyes. I am blessed to be able to travel a ton with her and we make a great team.
If you were to give or receive a Mother’s Day gift from Dune Jewelry, which design would it be?
If I was able to receive a gift of dune for Mother’s Day I would probably say the Mediterranean Necklace – Ocean Gradient.

What’s your favorite memory with your children that always brings a smile to your face?
I have many memories but the ones that I lovingly remember the most is when they would break something in the house, prop it up like nothing happened and when we would ask what happened, my younger son would be the first to spill the beans! In detail!
What is the best, most rewarding part about being a mom?
The best, most rewarding part of being a mom is knowing my sons are good, loving, hard working men. I feel their success is my success too!
How do you balance being a mom and a professional? Any tips for other working moms?
Balancing work and being a mom is tough no matter what advice you get, so my only advice is never miss your child’s events. No matter what. work will always be there but the chance to see your child smile and their happiness to see you there is forever unforgettable and priceless.
If you were to give or receive a Mother’s Day gift from Dune Jewelry, which design(s) would it be?
If I was to receive a Mother’s Day gift from Dune my choice would be the Neptune Necklace with Mother of Pearl and Blue Sea Glass.

A Mother Is Like No Other
For some of us, Mother’s Day is a time for reflection and gratitude for our own mothers, grandmothers, or mother-like figures. Not all of us are moms, by choice or by chance, but all of us can appreciate a mother’s love.
When time with our mother gets cut short, may we remember her beauty in all that shimmers.

Please share what your mother means to you.
Mother’s Day has always been a challenging Holiday for me. My Mother passed when I was 9, leaving me to navigate growing up into a woman with a rather large gap in my life. Margo was a free-spirited woman with a wild laugh. I wish I got to know her more, and I hope that somewhere she can share what I’ve been doing with my life. I hope I’ve made her proud.

What Dune Jewelry design reminds you of your mom?
My most precious piece of Dune Jewelry is the Boho Stack Ring 14k Gold. In the middle I have green sea glass I collected on one of my travels, and on the outer settings I placed White Horse Beach in Plymouth. My Mom would often take me to this beach to comb for treasures and watch the sunset. More than her gravesite, this is where I feel most connected to her. Now I can carry a piece of that with me everywhere.

At Dune Jewelry, we’re proud to share such beautiful stories about motherhood. It’s not always an easy path, but it’s well worth it and our fantastic team is the perfect example.
