Summer is officially here, and I don’t know about you, but I am SO ready to sip on a refreshing cocktail and have something delicious to eat!

Can you believe the Fourth of July is right around the corner? The last few months have been interesting, that’s for sure. It’s so crazy that we’re already halfway through 2020! Although this year’s Red, White and Blue holiday will be very different from previous years that have been filled with big pool parties and BBQs, it doesn’t mean we can’t have fun in our own backyards with our family or with a few close friends we feel comfortable being around.

I love themed recipes, and there are so many things you can make in celebration of the Fourth of July. Red, white and blue desserts are always popular — and even better if they don’t involve turning on the oven during these hot summer months.

One of the easiest no-bake desserts you can make is a trifle. Traditionally, this layered dish is made with angel food cake, pudding, and berries, but you could use any kind of cake in place of the angel food cake, or even brownies. Add in cookie crumbles, chocolate chips or candy bar, sprinkles… The options are endless!

The Perfect 4th of July Recipe to make with your kids

Since we’re gearing up for Fourth of July, try this Red, White, and Blue-themed version.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Angel food cake. This is easy to find at your local grocery store in the bakery section.
  • Two boxes of white chocolate pudding mix.
  • Sliced strawberries & blueberries.
  • Whipped cream.
  • A deep glass dish. This makes for a pretty presentation because you will be able to see the layers.

Now let’s put together our trifle!

This may look like a lot of instructions, but it’s just because we’re going through one layer at a time. I promise you, it’s not hard at all!

  • Make the puddings according to the package directions, and set it aside.
  • Cut the cake into bite-size cubes.
  • Wash and slice your strawberries and wash your blueberries.
  • Place about one-third of the cake cubes in a layer on the bottom of the dish.
  • Top the cake with sliced strawberries.
  • Layer on the pudding.
  • Add a layer of blueberries.
  • Add a layer of whipped cream over the berries.
  • Repeat with another layer of angel food cake, strawberries, pudding, blueberries and whipped cream.
  • Decorate the top in a pretty pattern with extra berries.

Like I said, you can really make this your own with whatever goodies you want to use. It’s a fun and yummy dessert that everyone will love!

And now for the fun part — the cocktails!

No summer is complete without a few go-to crisp cocktails to cool you down when the temperatures are rising. If you like frozen drinks, you have got to check out our blogger Shaina’s recipe for Frozen Peach Bellinis. She actually made peach sorbet from scratch to use for the drink! It looks really easy, so definitely give that a try.

Another simple drink recipe that’s great for the summer is a simple white wine spritzer. All you need is a crisp white wine, like a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc, and your favorite flavor of sparkling water!

I’d love to see some of your favorite summer recipes. Share pictures on social media and tag @dunejewelry and @sandy__hands! Whatever you’re making this summer, make sure you enjoy every minute.

Cheers!
