Can you tell us a bit about your store and what makes it a must-see this summer?

Calypso is a resort apparel, jewelry, shoe and gift store located on South Padre Island, Texas. While the store has been on the island for 32 years, David and I bought the store in December, 2022. As owners/operators, our goal is about people as much as its merchandise. We strive to provide exceptional customer service, helping our guests find high-quality merchandise at a price that fits most any budget. We carry women’s and men’s fashion apparel, shoes, jewelry and gifts, along with a selection of children’s swim and sportswear. While we have other fashion jewelry, Dune is by far our best seller! We are able to match a piece of Dune jewelry with almost any outfit in the store!  We select all of our merchandise with the idea that our customers can find products that they may not find elsewhere, but that they can also easily wear or use when they return home. Our buying philosophy is always with the end customer in mind and includes attention towards high quality, unique selection, and affordability.

Where is your store located and what are some nearby attractions that visitors should check out?

We are located close to the entertainment district on South Padre Island, Texas, and only ½ mile from the Beach on one side, and the bay on the other. There are so many things to do when visiting South Padre Island. Besides spending the day at the Beach, a couple of our favorite attractions are Sea Turtle Inc., the sea turtle sanctuary and hospital, and the Holiday Sandcastle Exhibit which is a free exhibit of incredible larger-than-life sand sculptures.

What are some must-visit spots for a perfect day trip near your store?

If taking a day trip to South Padre Island, you should first plan on spending an hour or more shopping in our store. Our selection of quality apparel, gifts, shoes and of course jewelry such as Dune, is unmatched on the island. However, the reason visitors come to the island is for the beach! Situated on the Gulf of Mexico, South Padre Island boasts as having the most beautiful beach in Texas. Once you spend a day on the island and see all there is to do, you will quickly plan another trip for more time. Visitors enjoy dolphin watching, renting jet skis, parasailing, windsurfing, bay- and deep-sea fishing, and so much more. The beach side has spectacular sunrises, while the bay side of the island hosts the most amazing sunsets. During the summer season, visitors and locals alike get to experience incredible fireworks displays three nights a week.

How long have you been a Dune Jewelry Retail Partner and what do you love most about it?

We have only had Dune Jewelry in our store for less than a year, but we have a hard time keeping it in stock. In fact, it has been so popular, we have placed multiple reorders already, and we are just now hitting the busy season!

The reason we love Dune Jewelry is it allows our customers to cherish a part of South Padre Island in a beautiful, high-quality piece of jewelry. We tell a story by explaining that the sterling silver jewelry is hand-crafted with sand from South Padre Island as well as other earth elements, all with a lifetime warranty. By purchasing a piece (or two), they are taking part of their South Padre Island experience home with them. We partnered with Dune because every piece is something we would proudly own and wear ourselves. As important as the quality and selection is the exceptionally friendly customer service received from Kate and the entire Dune team.

Best-sellers: What types of Dune Jewelry pieces are most popular with your customers?

Our customers love everything Dune, but by far the best-sellers are the beaded bracelets. With a modest price point, our customers are able to take a piece of the island home without feeling they have overspent. While the beaded bracelets are our best sellers, they also are a gateway to get to talk about all of the other beautiful pieces, often turning into a multi-piece sale.

Are there any local events or festivals happening in or near your store this summer that visitors should know about? When and where?

Every weekend is a celebration here on South Padre Island, from fireworks three nights a week to different outdoor sports events, there is something for everyone. A particularly fun experience for the family is the annual Sandcastle Days Competition, where world renowned sandcastle artists descend on the island to compete in larger-than-life sand sculptures. This year’s competition will be held October 3-8. SPI also hosts several fishing tournaments, including the Ladies’ Kingfisher Tournament, August 9-11, and TIFT July 31-August 4.

What are your personal favorite pieces from the Dune Jewelry collection and why?

My personal favorite is the Boho Cuff Bracelet Round. It looks so elegant, but also brings out my “boho” side.

What is a summer must-have from Dune Jewelry that you’re excited to feature in your store?

We are extremely excited to have the Touch the World Charity Bracelets. Our customers like them because of the popular pull-cord band and SPI sand, but when they learn that each bracelet supports a different cause, they appreciate the bracelet even more.

Can you tell us a bit about your store and what makes it a must-see this summer?

Anderson’s is the ultimate garden center experience. This year we celebrated our 70th birthday at our original location in Newport News.  Our history is homegrown top-quality plants. However, we’ve expanded our offerings, alongside showstopping greenhouses we have our Men’s and Women’s Boutique, Gift, and a full-scale restaurant- Sage Kitchen. 8 years ago we opened our Virginia Beach location. It has become a favorite stop for tourists and local families, offering everything the Newport News location boasts as well as mini golf, an arcade, and an outdoor event space. 

Where is your store located and what are some nearby attractions that visitors should check out?

Anderson’s Virginia Beach is located at 1925 Fisher Arch, Virginia Beach 23456.  We sit directly off of Sandbridge Road on the way to Sandbridge Beach.  We are centrally located between Sandbridge Beach (15 min) and the Virginia Beach Oceanfront (15 min) and 10 minutes from the Virginia Aquarium. 

What are some must-visit spots for a perfect day trip near your store?

The perfect day trip would include a morning sunrise over the ocean on Sandbridge Beach.  Next, a visit to Baja Restaurant in Sandbridge for breakfast, a favorite spot of the locals. On your trip back into town down Sandbridge Road hit the farm stands for some homegrown fruits and veggies. You’ll pass right by Anderson’s on your way.  You’ll need a the rest of the afternoon to soak in all we have to offer – Mini golf at our Mr A’s Adventure Golf, vintage quarter-fed games in Broski’s Arcade, scratch-made lunch and a famous Detox Margarita in our dining greenhouse, a stroll thru the colorful greenhouses, finalized with shopping til you drop in our Boutique.

What do you love most about being a Dune Retail Partner?

I love that Dune offers the perfect keepsake for locals and visitors. I know they will look at their Dune piece, and whether it makes them think of home or a far-off destination, it has a lot of emotion tied to it. 

Best-sellers: What types of Dune Jewelry pieces are most popular with your customers?

The bangle bracelets with a charm have been a top seller for us since we brought Dune into the Boutique. Also, our customers love any of the Dune pieces that incorporate the turquoise gradient.

Are there any local events or festivals happening in or near your store this summer that visitors should know about? When and where?

One of our most popular events of the year is our Mermaid Festival. It will be held on August 10 at our Newport News location and on August 24 in Virginia Beach.  We will have a Live DJ, local vendors, food and drink specials, photo ops, and of course Mermaids! It’s an amazing event that is so much fun for the entire family!

What are your personal favorite pieces from the Dune Jewelry collection and why?

I have several pieces of Dune jewelry but my absolute favorite is my Rope Seven Sand Cuff Bracelet. It’s special to me because it was given to me as a gift and it is the piece of Dune I wear the most. I’m in love with the look of it, its so unique and can be dressed up or down to go with any outfit. I will always remember receiving it and it will always be a style that I consistently keep in our cases.

Can you tell us a bit about your store and what makes it a must-see this summer?

Enjoy Bok Tower Gardens’ unparalleled opportunities for artistic, and cultural enrichment when you tour the lush landscapes of the Olmsted gardens and hear the music of the Singing Tower carillon. Bok Tower Gardens is truly a place of historic beauty and serenity and The Shop at Bok supports this mission. We offer a variety of hand-made and one-of-a-kind items reflecting the unique culture of Central Florida. Our Dune Jewelry collection includes historic marble from The Singing Tower making these pieces works of art and part of history. The Plant Shop also features a wonderful assortment of native and tropical plants, pots, and plant accessories.

A part of Bok Tower Gardens, The Shop at Bok is located in the heart of Central Florida near the town of Lake Wales. As the cultural icon of Polk County, Bok Tower Gardens is a destination for art, culture and nature. Our neighbors include Legoland Florida Resort, Circle B Bar Preserve, Bonnet Springs Park, Florida Children’s Museum, Safari Wilderness, the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes, and the Polk Museum of Art. Our Central Florida destination includes major theme parks, citrus grove and farm tours, historic landmarks, and some of the area’s finest lakes.

What are some must-visit spots for a perfect day trip near your store?

For nature lovers, we recommend an early birding tour of Circle B Nature Preserve, where soaring bald eagles and rustic trails along the shores of Lake Hancock will surround you. Lakeland’s Circle B Bar Reserve is one of the best places to see wildlife in the state. Spend the remainder of the day in paradise at Bok Tower Gardens. Enjoy lunch at the Blue Palmetto Café, an afternoon carillon concert at The Singing Tower, and a shopping spree at The Shop at Bok. Enjoy dinner at one of Winter Haven’s quaint downtown restaurants and a final pint of craft beer at Grove Roots Brewery.

For shoppers, we recommend starting the day in Lakeland with an eclectic mix of retailers and antique dealers. Then, visit historic Bartow for a quick visit to the Polk County History Center, grab a coffee at Unfiltered, and shop from the downtown merchants. Finally, head to Bok Tower Gardens for a late lunch at the Blue Palmetto Café, a stroll to the Singing Tower, and shopping at The Shop at Bok.

For families, we suggest a three-day itinerary. Start your visit on Friday night with a sunset boat tour of the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes and dinner at the Harborside restaurant. We are in love with the Boho Bloom collection as these fashion-forward pieces are great for younger audiences. We also love pairing larimar and turquoise with the pink tower marble as the pop of color, which is great for layering.

Can you tell us a bit about your store and what makes it a must-see this summer?

We’re a tiny store on a little island, but we pack more charm per square foot than anywhere you’ve ever been.  We BEE-lieve (get it?) in praying, working hard, staying humble, and having fun.  Oh, and that thoughtful gifts are the ones that count.  

Where is your store located and what are some nearby attractions that visitors should check out?

Too many things to list – Topsail (pronounced TOP-SUL) is a place where fun happens wherever you look for it.  If you can’t be happy here – you can’t be happy.

What are some must-visit spots for a perfect day trip near your store?

Electric Bike Rentals to tour the island,  Walking the High-Rise Bridge, Hanging out at Serenity Point and finding shells, chilling at one of our craft breweries and shopping.  So many creative small businesses have opened over the last few years – so there’s something for everybody.  

How long have you been a Dune Jewelry Retail Partner and what do you love most about it?

Since the beginning!  Sara, one of Holly’s best friends who lives close to the store, introduced us to the line and we had the first custom display case and the first billboard!  Can’t imagine our business without it! We love sharing a truly unique way to remember a trip and to keep a “souvenir” for a lifetime.

Delicate Dune necklaces, earrings and rings, stacker rings in any shape or color and Turtles, turtles, turtles. 

Are there any local events or festivals happening in or near your store this summer that visitors should know about? When and where?

During the summer… Every Friday there are live concerts or movies in the park (they rotate), old-fashioned BINGO on Thursday nights at Topsail Beach, Craft Markets on Thursday mornings, and Turtles releases throughout the summer.  In the fall there’s the Autumn With Topsail – which everyone looks forward to in October.

The Seven Sand Ring – so beautiful and so many choices to make each one unique.

Can you tell us a bit about your store and what makes it a must-see this summer?

Catalina Blue is the essence of an island summer! From the moment you walk in our boutique, you will feel a sense of tranquility and island femininity as you are surrounded by the colors of the ocean. Our chic dresses, unique jewelry, locally made candles and seaglass art are a perfect first stop to make your time on the island dreamy. 

Where is your store located and what are some nearby attractions that visitors should check out?

We are located on the waterfront on the very first corner once you arrive in our picturesque harbor.

We are steps away from the beach and are in close proximity to just about everything! Our island resort town is one square mile and all of the activities are on or near the main boardwalk.

There is so much to do! For the adventurous, there are ziplines, parasailing, hiking, and some of the West Coast’s best diving. For those looking to relax, we have a beautiful boardwalk full of restaurants, shops, and three beaches with crystal blue water! For families, there is a Fun Zone, an Escape Room, miniature golfing, and everyone’s favorite-enjoying an ice cream on a hot summer day or evening!

What are some must-visit spots for a perfect day trip near your store?

The interior of the island is one of its best-kept secrets! You can take a hummer tour and see bison, deer, bald eagles and the Catalina Fox. If you are a water lover, you can catch the Cyclone, a high speed passenger boat that takes you to the quaint town of Two Harbors for a day of relaxing on the secluded beach in a town that has only one store and one restaurant, a true hideaway and unique place to see the rugged beauty of the island. 

How long have you been a Dune Jewelry Retail Partner?

We have carried Dune Jewelry since our store opened in March of 2021. It truly carries the essence of what Catalina Blue is all about – the island, the ocean, the sand, the beach, the air. The pieces capture it all so well and allow our customers to “take home a piece of Catalina”

What do you love most about being a Dune Retail Partner?

We love the craftsmanship and the unique designs that offer something for everyone! Most of all, we, (and our customers!) love that the pieces carry a sentimentality about them and are constant reminders of the island. Many people have visited for many years, or were proposed to on the island, or married there, each person has their special story about what makes Catalina a special place in their heart, and with Dune, they are able to see and be reminded of these memories daily with a beautiful piece of jewelry that carries their story with them. 

Are there any local events or festivals happening in or near your store this summer that visitors should know about? When and where?

During the summer, we are very very busy! People flock to the island for the beautiful beaches and “Italian Riviera” ambiance. Families enjoy it as well because it is so safe that children can truly be free and enjoy themselves in ways they cannot on the mainland. One of the highlights of the summer is the “Summer Concert Series” which hosts free concerts on the stage downtown with bands. It is fun for everyone! People of all ages enjoy the dancing under the moonlight with a view of the ocean, and our beautiful tile fountains and boardwalk! 

What are your personal favorite pieces from the Dune Jewelry collection and why?

We love the drop earrings made with our sand and crushed turquoise gradient! They are so simple  and classic and appeal to just about everyone, so reminiscent of the island, the water, and summer!

What is a summer must-have from Dune Jewelry that you’re excited to feature in your store?

We really love the jellyfish earrings and necklace. They are such unique pieces and so whimsical! Perfect for the person who has everything (the design is like no other!), and also a great piece for the one who loves art, beauty, playfulness, the ocean, and Catalina. They are truly showstoppers!
