As the majestic giants of the ocean, whales hold a special place in our hearts and minds. Their grace, intelligence, and sheer size inspire awe and reverence among people worldwide. Yet despite their beauty, whales still face threats such as commercial whaling, global warming, ozone depletion, pollution, and unsustainable marine tourism.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, 6 out of the 13 great whale species are classified as vulnerable or endangered.

“One whale is worth thousands of trees,” according to a study by the International Monetary Fund. Their conservation plays a part in “limit[ing] greenhouse gases and global warming.” The ocean is a large carbon sink responsible for absorbing 31% of CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere and releasing more oxygen than all of Earth’s forests – combined.

How We’re Showing Up

At Dune, we’re continuously inspired by these breathtaking creatures, which is why we’ve designed new pieces that pay them homage. From sleek whale pendants to intricately designed necklaces, each of the designs in our collection is a stunning sterling silver tribute to these remarkable creatures.

But we’re not doing this alone. To celebrate these incredible mammals, we’re proud to collaborate with Whale & Dolphin Conservation, the leading international charity dedicated entirely to the welfare and conservation of whales, dolphins, and porpoises worldwide.

With every purchase from our whale-inspired collection, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to WDC to support their vital work in protecting marine life and their habitats.

Humpback Whale Stationary Necklace

Embody the majestic presence of one of the ocean’s most beloved creatures with this simple yet elegant sterling silver necklace, handcrafted with your choice of sand or earth element. Choose the Larimar option for feelings of tranquility, strength, and peace.

Fun Whale Fact: During most of the year, humpback whales in the Southern Hemisphere refrain from eating and rely solely on stored fat reserves for a period ranging from 5.5 to 7.5 months. During this time they travel from their warm breeding areas to the Antarctic, where they feed on krill.

Orca Necklace

Handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail and your choice of sand or earth element, the sterling silver Orca Necklace is a stunning embodiment of nature’s timeless elegance. The orca symbolizes community, harmony, and protection. Wear this necklace as a reminder of your wild ocean spirit.

Fun Whale Fact: Killer whales, also known as orcas, are the largest members of the dolphin family. You heard that right! They’re social animals who travel in pods and are considered one of the ocean’s apex predators. Oh – and they have the 2nd largest brain of all marine mammals (the sperm whale comes first, though its cerebellum is half the size of the orca’s).

Whale Pendant Necklace

Dive into the wonder of the ocean with the Whale Pendant Necklace, a stunning tribute to the sea’s endless depths. Handcrafted from sterling silver, the round pendant features the graceful silver silhouette of a whale. An adjustable and versatile design, this necklace can be made with your choice of sand or earth elements, combined with a turquoise gradient, or with the healing Larimar stone.

Fun Whale Fact: When feeding, whales consume vast amounts of water equal to their body weight. They rapidly approach swarms of plankton or fish, then filter their food through specialized baleen hairs in their throats.

Blue Whale Necklace

Embrace the grace and magnificence of the blue whale, our planet’s largest animal, with this handcrafted design. Made with sterling silver, it’s the perfect everyday reminder of your ocean spirit. Choose the healing Larimar stone or elegant Turquoise Gradient options for a twist.

If you want to go a step further, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation has an adoption page where you can adopt (symbolically of course!) a Humpback or Killer whale. We know…it sounds amazing!
