We are excited to launch Dune Jewelry’s volunteer initiative to make the world a better place for all. This March, we are sending 6 Dune team members as volunteers to work with All Hands and Hearts, in Marsh Harbor, Bahamas. All Hands and Hearts is an incredible volunteer powered relief group. All Hands and Hearts immediately assesses and responds to the needs of the community that has been affected by natural disasters and begins to work on a long-term recovery plan. Our team members will be part of a team of 80 volunteers to help clean up the destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian.

On September 1, 2019, Hurricane Dorian made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane in The Bahamas with wind speeds in excess of 185mph, lashing The Bahamian islands of Great Abaco (pop. ~17,200) and Grand Bahama (pop. ~51,000). After striking The Bahamas, Dorian’s traveling speed slowed to 1 mph over Grand Bahama, prolonging the island’s exposure to life-threatening storm surges of 18-23 feet above normal tide levels. Dorian is the strongest hurricane on record in The Bahamas and has tied a record for the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever to make landfall.

Our team will be volunteers for one whole week in Abaco. As novices, we have been preparing for a little over a month. As our arrival time draws near we can’t help but start to feel excitement and nerves bubble to the surface! We’re READY to go and excited to get work, and make an impact with the Hurricane Dorian relief effort. Now it’s time for the final packing checklist. We have a great idea of what to expect and are so excited to meet our fellow volunteers.

We’ll be keeping everyone updated on our adventures and progress in the Bahamas so check in with our social media for daily updates and behind the scenes views! We can’t wait to show you where we will be staying, what we’ll be working on, and all the new friendly faces we meet along the way! Stay tuned!
