Layering necklaces has always been a style staple but recently I’ve gotten very inspired by the neck mess. Whether it’s 4 or 10 layered necklaces, there’s a way to make it work and make it great. It’s even better when each necklace tells a story or holds meaning which makes Dune Jewelry the perfect partner to attain your layered necklace goals.  

How To Layer Necklaces Step by Step 

Here are my tips for the ultimate layered necklace look:  

  1. Controlled chaos: you need an anchor for the layered necklace look so choose a larger pendant or a multi-charm necklace to start you off. Chunky or heavier on the bottom is always the right move. 
  2. Play with shapes. It’s never as fun to look at if it’s all round, or oval or square. Make sure to play with pendant or charm shapes throughout your layered necklace look. 
  3. Make it messy!  Your necklace layers shouldn’t be perfect. While 3 layered necklaces can look nice, it just doesn’t carry the confidence that a 4 or 5 or 6 necklace layer carries. When you get it right, it’s just so good. 
  4. Throw in an unexpected seed bead necklace or freshwater pearls to break up the metal. 
  5. Don’t be shy. Put on ALL of your necklaces at different lengths and then take them off one by one until they look and feel “right”. 
  6. Give yourself some time to try a few different things. As much as I wish you could throw on a bunch of necklaces and walk out the door, layering necklaces doesn’t work that way. You have to try different lengths, pendants, charms, double charms, metals, and more. Once you find the necklace layers that work best for you, it’s easy to keep it going and try new things.
